Company Site or Online Store: Which One Fits Your Business?

7/8/2026 · 3 min read

The difference in plain language, the gap in cost and daily effort, and how to tell which one your business actually needs.

Plenty of business owners tell us "I want a store" when what they actually need is a company site. And occasionally the reverse.

The gap between the two is large, in cost and in the daily effort it puts on you, so it is worth understanding before you decide.

What is the difference, simply?

A company site explains who you are and what you offer, and ends with the customer contacting you. The sale happens off the site: a call, a WhatsApp message, or a visit.

An online store displays products with prices, and the customer picks, pays, and receives a shipment. The whole sale happens on the site.

When you need a company site

If your service:

  • Needs an inspection or a custom quote. Contracting, maintenance, consulting, law, design.
  • Has a price that varies by case. You cannot put a fixed number behind an "add to cart" button.
  • Brings the customer to you. A restaurant, salon, clinic or workshop.
  • Sells to companies. Usually through quotes and negotiation.

In these cases a store does not help you, and can actively complicate things.

When you need a store

If your products:

  • Are ready-made at fixed prices. Perfumes, clothing, sweets, spare parts.
  • Ship or get collected repeatedly. Meaning you have a repeatable sale, not a project per customer.
  • Are already being sold through WhatsApp messages and you are tired of tracking orders by hand.

That last point is the clearest signal. If you spend hours a day answering "how much is it?", "is it in stock?" and "how do I transfer?", a store takes that off you.

The cost difference

Company site Online store
First year From SAR 1,490 From SAR 4,900
Renewal From SAR 690 From SAR 1,490
Build time 5 to 7 days About 14 days

The bigger difference: your daily effort

This is the part most people do not think about.

A company site is built once and refreshed every few months. Your time on it is close to zero.

A store is a living thing. It needs you to:

  • Update stock and prices.
  • Answer and fulfil orders.
  • Handle shipping and returns.
  • Track payments and invoices.

If neither you nor an employee has time for that, a store becomes a burden rather than a source of income.

Extra requirements for a store

A store needs things a company site does not:

  • A commercial registration, to open a payments account.
  • A bank account in the business name.
  • An arrangement with a shipping company.
  • Compliance with e-invoicing under the ZATCA requirements.

The third option: start with the company site

This is what we tell most people who are torn.

Start with a company site that has a page displaying your products and a WhatsApp button. See how the market responds, build your presence in Google, and measure real demand.

Six months later, if you have enough orders that tracking them manually is wearing you down, upgrade to a store. Your content, domain and email all carry over.

Deciding in two questions

  1. Can I put a fixed price on everything I sell? If no, company site.
  2. Do I have daily time to process orders? If no, company site.

If both answers are yes, a store suits you.
